Cultural Arts

From live theatre productions to performance ensembles to high-level debating to fine art exhibitions, Inver Hills is a college dedicated to cultural diversity, expression and inclusion.

Activities, classes and events

Music events

Each semester, the Inver Hills Music Department presents concerts and recitals in support of the academic curriculum and arts culture on campus. Events include solo and collaborative recitals by faculty, choir performances, and a student showcase. All events are free and open to the public.

Inver Hills Theatre

Each academic year, the Inver Hills Theatre Department presents plays and musicals in the Theater and the Black Box. All events are free for students.

Annual Research Conference

The Inver Hills Annual Research Conference is a two-day event each spring for students, faculty, and staff to present their scholarly and creative research. You may participate by presenting a research paper or designing a poster describing your research. Of course, you can simply attend presentations by keynote speakers and members of the campus community. Events are free and open to the public.

Fine Arts

Inver Hills offers art classes covering historical, cultural and contemporary perspectives, including your own individual expression in the arts. You can take beginning and advanced studio courses in your personal area of focus:

Fine Arts Festival

Inver Hills hosts an annual Fine Arts Festival during spring semester. The event features more than 40 sessions presented by the college’s Art, English, Music and Theatre departments. Free and open to the public, the Fine Arts Festival has provided a range of activities over the years, including:

  • Glass-fusing demonstrations
  • Acting and flash fiction workshop
  • Portrait photo booth modeling
  • Improv performances
  • Student-directed one-act plays
  • Student film projects
  • Steel drum teaching sessions
  • Solo song contests
  • Concerts
  • Photography demos
  • Artist presentations
  • Author lectures

Located in the atrium of the Fine Arts building, FA120, the Inver Hills Art Gallery hosts a solid variety of programming each academic year, including:

  • Six exhibitions
  • Two art sales
  • Several multidisciplinary exhibits and events

Exhibitions showcase the work of Inver Hills students and faculty as well as regional and national artists. Art sales raise funds for art student scholarships. The gallery also coordinates offerings with the Music and Theatre departments, the Center for Diversity and Equity, and student clubs on campus.
